Peridot is the gem form of the mineral olivine. It is one of the birthstones for August and a great gift for summer birthdays. It is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color; the green hues can vary from yellowish to brownish green, from light olive green to vibrant green. The fabled origin of Peridot stretches back to Ancient Egypt, on the volcanic island of Zebargad in the Red Sea.
